The Family Youth Center
“So built we the wall; and all the wall was joined together unto the half thereof: for the people had a mind to work.” ~ Nehemiah 4:6
The Family Youth Center is a Vision initiative that came about from the visionary mind of Dr. Edward L. Hall, with the backing of church support. It is an initiative that we have embarked upon for several years and we still have this vision and goal before us to accomplish in God’s perfect timing.
In more recent years (2011 forward), several community meetings have been held in the North Nashville Area to “Restore the Peace.” The community, “Metro Police, local and state leaders” met to discuss the rise in juvenile violence. In a standing room only crowd on September 1, 2011, Commander Anthony Carter said, “Juvenile crime is the biggest problem in the North Precinct.” At another community meeting on September 4, 2011, State Representative Brenda Gilmore spoke to violence in our community by saying, “It’s just screaming for us to stop with our busy lives and to do something about it.” At each of these meetings, hundreds of residents gathered to come up with solutions and are in search of restoring peace to our community. A little over a year later, juvenile crimes are still on the rise with the highest criminal activity being between the hours of 3:00 PM, after our children get out of school until to 12:00 AM. According to the Tennessee Bureau Investigation (TBI), the statistics show nearly 49% of the criminal activity in Nashville, many of which involve juveniles especially in the North West Nashville area, occurs between the hours of 3:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m.
We have a SOLUTION!
With our Family Youth Center, for the majority of these hours, our doors would be open as a safe haven for many youth and their families in the Nashville area.
Our mission has been and will continue to be to SERVE! In keeping with this mission, the Buena Vista Church of Christ continues to embark upon this vision for the building of The Family Youth Center.
Can you put a price on a life?
If we save one child’s life, all of our efforts will be worth it. Our goal with your help is to create a healthy environment that will serve as an oasis to our young people that are falling victim to the streets.
We ask for your continued prayers and even your ongoing support towards this vision initiative. You can become an ongoing sponsor; you can come and volunteer with us to help our youth; you can help us with networking this vision initiative; you can make a charitable contribution; or again, please pray with us and for us regarding this initiative!
